What is Spanakopita?
If there is something common in every Greek province, that would be their local pies. There is an array of pies made with variations in flavour, appearance and technique. Nearly every household has their unique way of putting together a pie and take a lot of pride in doing so.
Among the number of pies available, one that stands out is the Spanakopita. Simply put, it is a spinach pie.
Olive Oil & Butter Spanakopita
We put a lot of effort and dedication in preparing the housemade filo pastry. Using only honest ingredients known for their superior quality, we mix them all up and after kneading the dough we begin the process of stretching it by hand. The dough is stretched so thin it becomes translucent. We place the freshly sautéed filling of spinach, spring onions, feta cheese, extra virgin olive oil and spices and fold it in a spiral shape.
We then brush the pastries with a blend of our premium extra virgin olive oil and butter and place them in the oven and bake until golden brown. They are then placed on cooling trays and served.
The end result is just the best Spanakopita you can possibly find around Melbourne.
